Dining in Manchester
Tropeiro
Tropeiro on Manchester’s Sackville Street is a traditional south Brazilian churrascaria with a real gaucho feel. It’s a meat eater’s heaven with a variety of beef, lamb, pork and chicken cuts cooked on rotating spits over an authentic open charcoal grill. The accompanying hot and cold buffet includes sides like rice, pasta, black bean stew and a choice of 15 gourmet salads. And Tropeiro is one place where you’ll never go hungry as you get to eat as much as you want for the one set price. A system of green and red discs on the table tells your waiter whether to keep the meat coming or not. The wine list offers plenty of South American wines and there are plans to introduce some Brazilian wines in the near future. Tropeiro is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with seating for 150 diners spread over two floors.
Alderley Restaurant
Housed in the elegant split-level conservatory of the Alderley Edge Hotel, the two-AA-rosetted Alderley Restaurant boasts splendid views out over the Edge. Specialties include hot and cold seafood dishes, hot puddings fresh from the oven and freshly baked breads from the hotel bakery. A wine list with more than 500 bins and 100 champagnes admirably complements the seasonal Modern European menus.
Bacchanalia
A bacchanalia is a gathering of people eating, drinking, partying and having fun and Bacchanalia on Chapel Walks, just off Manchester’s bustling King Street, is where you will find just that. On the ground floor there is plush booth seating surrounding the large cocktail bar where you will find the fancy pants bartenders mixing and shaking some of Manchester’s best cocktails. As you would expect with Bacchus being the Greek god of wine, the extensive wine list caters for most people and most people’s wallets. On the first floor is the light and airy restaurant where you can watch the chefs preparing your food in the open kitchen. The food is of a modern British style but given a Mediterranean twist. The food is prepared fresh daily and there will always be a minimum of ten daily specials to choose from. When the weather decides to play ball you can eat alfresco on the outside terrace and watch the shoppers go by as you relax with a chilled bottle of wine.
Cedar Tree
This intimate, elegant and pretty restaurant was established in October 2000 on one of Newhey's old terraced properties by a husband-and-wife team with a passion for what they do. The restaurant is laid out in a bistro style and the cuisine is described as 'British with a twist.' Menus change seasonally and the restaurant offers a variety of gourmet nights, party nights with live entertainment, as well a midweek 'early bird' special offer.

Corban's Gallery
Corban’s Gallery is situated on Hale Road in Hale Barns between Altrincham and the M56. It’s a very prominent building with a car park to the rear and a huge patio area to the front which is great for people watching over a glass of wine or dining al fresco from the BBQ or summer daytime menu. The daytime menu offers something for all tastes, from salads and sandwiches to tapas and light bites. The a la carte menu is available from 6pm every evening and features contemporary modern European cooking based on fresh local produce. Booking is advisable.
Dowds Restaurant
Dowds relocated from its original Ashton site to Glossop in December 2006 and the move has proven a great success. The restaurant is open for lunch Wednesday to Saturday from 12 noon to 2pm for a light or business lunch and for dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm to10pm. The food here is modern British in style and Dowds has obviously filled a gap in the local market as booking isn’t just highly recommended here, it’s pretty much essential. The evening menu changes monthly and there are regular special offers. Enjoy Thursday evenings with their in-house pianist. There is also a private dining area available for all kinds of occasions which seats up to 20 people.
English Lounge
In the heart of the Northern Quarter, the English Lounge is -- as the name suggests -- the most 'English' of venues with leather sofas, bookshelves, prints on the walls and lots of dark wood setting the tone. It spreads over two floors with the upstairs lighter and brighter with a cream and aubergine colour scheme. Food is served from noon until 9.30pm every day, a well-priced selection of British dishes with international flavors. A good selection of wines and cask ales too.
Fat Loaf
It’s back to where it all began for Tim Wood and Paul Taylor, the young chefs behind The Fat Loaf. They first met in the kitchens of Felix on the western edge of Didsbury Village before working together for Marco Pierre White at The Lowry and eventually setting up their first successful restaurant in Sale. It quickly earned a reputation for affordable gourmet food and a second Fat Loaf in Altrincham followed.
Giraffe
Giraffe is all about freshly cooked food, great people and world music. The menu, inspired by the best flavours from around the world, includes all-day brunch, stacked pancakes with blueberries, brekkie baps, hand-roasted coffee, healthy smoothies, appetizer nibbles, main meals, tempting desserts, great cocktails, beers and carefully selected world wines. Popular lunch and dinner options include chicken schnitzel burger, tangy turkey enchilada, super healthy veggie and oregano feta salad and sharing plates for the table such as mezze nibbles, soy, chilli and ginger edamame, topped nachos and jerk chicken wings. The restaurant design is warm and colorful and is coupled with funky world music being played at just the right level so conversation comes first.
